Bob Williamson, President of ISTMA World, recently gave an interview for ETMM, a European-wide magazine focused on sourcing solutions for the tool and mould making industry, reflecting on the impacts of the novel coronavirus pandemic for tooling companies.
With many business activities shutting down and many new projects being placed on hold, the knock-on effect is going to be tremendous for the industrial sector and the tooling industry, that was already facing its own challenges. Considering the current situation, Bob Williamson advocates that "it is important to embrace co-operation and develop robust networks at both a regional and international level", involving competitors, suppliers and clients, adding that "the tooling industry will be required to innovate and bring new solutions to the market".
Bob Williamson also refers to the multitude of new technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution and the impact it will have in the production of medical devices, consumer electronics and packaging systems, although antecipating that the biggest growth potential will remain in the automotive sector.
